Interestingly, this image taken in 1947 of Ano Nuevo lighthouse keeper Walter Hake and his wife Dorothy and daughter Lynn Mary, shows the lantern room back on top of the old water tower that once was the first lighthouse. Why it was put back on top of the old structure again and when it came off the old structure again is unclear, especially since the station was abandoned the following year.
