The long-awaited renovation of the Tawas Point Lighthouse is finally complete.  Mihm Enterprises started work in February of 2023. Repairs were made to the aging bricks and improved ventilation inside the tower, correcting problems that caused the lantern, gallery and lighthouse tower to deteriorate. It was then finished up with a fresh coat of paint. The $455,000 project was underwritten through Michigan’s American Rescue Plan funds. Now that the project is complete, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is bringing back the Lighthouse Keeper Program to Tawas Point Light for 2024. For more information about the program, you can email: DNR-TawasKeepers@Michigan.gov. (Photos provided by Michigan DNR, Mihm Enterprises)
