An amazing exhibition, Robbins Reef Lighthouse: A Home in the Harbor, is now on display at the Noble Maritime Collection, which is the organization that owns the lighthouse and is in the process of restoring it.
This must-see exhibition includes the process of the restoration of the lighthouse, historic and contemporary interpretations by some noted artists, and the history of the lighthouse, particularly at the time of its most famous keeper, Katherine “Kate” Walker (1848-1931).
Using original furniture and artifacts from the collection of the Walker family, specifically Kate’s great-great granddaughter Barbara Pezzengrilli, the museum staff has created a facsimile of the warm home that Kate managed inside the cast-iron spark-plug style lighthouse where she lived for an amazing 36 years. Also, as well as works of art that depict the lighthouse, there are photographs, a multi-media presentation, and an etching created by Stephen Szoke, who is a great-great grandson of Kate Walker.
The exhibit will be on display through 2017. The Noble Maritime Collection is located at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, 10000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, New York.
