From time to time unusual old press and wire service photos relating to lighthouses come into our possession that, rather than file in the archives, we believe should be immediately published to share with our readers. Such is the case with this unique photo from the Acme Photo Service that appeared in newspapers in 1940.
The caption tells how a young Larry Munzner, of the Tarrytown Lighthouse, has New York’s whole Hudson River for his bath in the good old summertime. However, when winter comes, he has to use a portable tub in the lighthouse, since there was no running water. We wonder how his commanding officer felt when he saw this photo.
