Last month we reported, with photos, that Michigan’s McGulpin Point Lighthouse, long without its lantern room, would be relit as an active aid to navigation.
We are delighted to share with you here, images of the new lantern room being installed on the lighthouse. A relighting ceremony was held at the lighthouse on May 30.
The officials of Emmet County, the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keeper’s Association and all the others involved in bringing this historic lighthouse back to life and opening it to the public are to be congratulated and commended. A few of those people are, Sandy Planisek, Terry Pepper, Dick Moehl, Bob Adams. Lyn Johnson, and Jim Tamlyn.
The lighthouse will now become the focal point of a new park on the Straits of Mackinac just west of Mackinaw City. All photographs courtesy of the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keeper’s Association.
