This original, undated, vintage photograph was recently donated to the Lighthouse Digest. On the back of the photograph it says, “Peter (Buck) McNeil, who saved 389 persons from drowning in 40 years, will retire Dec. 1, four days after his 70th birthday. A dock-master at the Battery, NY, McNeil became a Manhattan legend.
