This fog bell was rung by hand for 45 minutes before the boiler from a steam powered fog signal could be powered up. The lady who rang the bell was given an appropriate nickname, which is explained in the book, Lighthouses of the Bay Area. (Reprinted with permission from Lighthouses of the Bay Area by Betty S. Veronica from Arcadia Publishing.)
