The introduction of the picture postcard towards the end of the 19th century did much to popularize the buildings they depicted and to encourage people to visit them. Lighthouses were a favorite theme for photographers and postcard publishers. The lighthouses along the southern Baltic coast were no exception, among them, of course, the Stilo Lighthouse. The oldest card of this lighthouse that I have; it shows this and two other interesting buildings in the area - a guesthouse and the coast guard's cottage. The photograph of the lighthouse tower will have been taken before the erection of the generator house. The photographer stood at the spot where now there is an entrance gate, part of the fencing around the premises, which are now the property of the Maritime Office in Gdynia. The postcard was probably issued around 1915.
