You will notice in this photo of Southwest Ledge Light, taken in 1938, that the fog horns had been lowered from the upper part of the structure to the lower part of the structure. Although the structure looks impressive, the keepers reported that the tower leaked and living conditions there were always damp. The name of the lighthouse keeper shown standing on the rocks was not listed on the photo. In 1988 the Coast Guard removed the 4th order lens from the tower and its whereabouts is not known by us.
