Photo Caption:
A lighthouse tender pulls away from the Detroit River Lighthouse in March of 1953 after dropping off the lighthouse keepers; they may have been opening the lighthouse for the season. The 4th order Fresnel lens, shown in the tower, is the second 4th order lens to be used in the tower. It is now on display at the Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven. The Coast Guard keepers referred to the lighthouse as “The Rock.” (Courtesy Detroit News) Back to the edition of: Jul/Aug 2015
