Veteran lighthouse keeper Alfred L. Cornell, who was born on July 15, 1876, was the last Lighthouse Service keeper to serve at Chambers Island Lighthouse. He arrived here 1933 and served until around 1942. He joined the U.S. Lighthouse Service in 1909 and had previously served at North Manitou Lighthouse, Pilot Island (Port Du Mont) Lighthouse, and Green Island Lighthouse.
