It may have been from this crude boat ramp in 1916 at the Port San Luis Obispo that a rescue boat departed to rescue a boat that the lighthouse keeper spotted floating in the water off the lighthouse with six slumped men in it. Three of the men were dead and three others were barely alive, all having suffered from hypothermia. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
