In 1978 the U.S. Postal Service issued a 29-cent postage stamp that featured the Sandy Hook Lighthouse as part of its Americana Series. Shown here are two First Day of Issue postmark cancellations of the new stamp. The stamps were issued before a new postal rate was supposed to go into effect. But the rate proposal was rejected and the 29-cent stamp saw almost no use. (Lighthouse Digest archives.) Back to the edition of: May/Jun 2014
