The second Cape Charles (Smith Island) Lighthouse in Virginia as it appeared shortly before it was demolished sometime after August of 1895. You will notice in this photo that the lens had been removed from the tower. Originally painted all white, a red band was painted around the middle of the lighthouse in 1892, but it was pretty faded by the time this photo was taken. Back to the edition of: May/Jun 2014
