The 2nd Devils Island Lighthouse tower as it looked when it was erected in 1901. Although it was built as a self-supporting cylinder, high winds would cause the tower to sway and shake so much that the lighthouse keepers complained that the motion would extinguish the lamp. When swaying, it would also install fear into the keeper who was in the lantern room at the time. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
