Captain Charles Richardson had a very notable and long career in the United States Lighthouse Service. Born in 1850 in New London, CT, he served for 45 years, starting with the lighthouse tender Putnam on which he spent five years before transferring to the lighthouse tender Shubrick in 1880. He then went to the Manzanita and eventually became her captain in 1887 when Rasmus started on Tillamook Rock. (Courtesy of Nimitz Library, U.S. Naval Academy) Back to the edition of: Mar/Apr 2023
