Photo Caption:
Concerned about his children’s education, Elmer C. Byrnes, who served as a lighthouse keeper at Point Iroquois Lighthouse from 1915 to 1953, petitioned the government for a school at the lighthouse. Six children of the lighthouse families, along with three from a local fisherman’s family, attended the one-room school. He is shown here toward the end of his career.
