Charles A. Hunter, who had previously served at Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse in New York, was the head keeper at Ohio’s Marblehead Lighthouse for an amazing thirty years, from 1903 to 1933. During the winter season, when the lake was frozen over, he would pass his time with his various talents. He carved a grandfather clock that proudly stood in one corner of the living room of the keeper’s house. Charles Hunter also made more than twenty highly-detailed tapestries that he framed and hung on the walls of the keeper’s house. They were of such images as the Marblehead Lighthouse, shown here, as well as ships and his nearby eleven-room stone house, which he had built for his retirement.
