Edwin Beinecke’s brothers, Frederick and Walter, married two cousins in the Sperry family which brought the Beinecke’s and Sperry’s into business together. Edwin became president of the Sperry and Hutchinson Company in 1923 and remained its chief executive until 1967. During his era, the S&H Company grew from a small enterprise to a Fortune 500 company by the 1970s. S&H Green Stamps were distributed by 65,000 retails stores in the USA and redeemed for merchandise at 820 centers across the country. Edwin was also on the boards of the Hotel Waldorf-Astoria Company and Tiffany & Co., among others. (Lighthouse Digest archives)
