All the Boston newspapers had a heyday reporting every sordid detail on many front pages from November 6, 1903 when Linda Wiley Josselyn was alleged to have died “suddenly” according to her husband, 4th assistant keeper Asa H. Josselyn of Thacher Island Lighthouse, until he was finally convicted of bigamy and hauled off to prison, on June 24, 1904. Josselyn had served at Thacher Island for only two years from Oct 17, 1901 to November 11, 1903. When Asa came before the bail commissioner following his arrest, he “replied to the question of whether he was married: ‘I think I am.’ ‘Too much married, aren’t you?’ asked the lieutenant. ‘It seems so,’ said Josselyn, smiling.” (The Boston Post, November 9, 1903)
