The New Point Comfort Lighthouse at the entrance to Mobjack Bay in Virginia is where, in 1846, Isaac F. Foster became the lighthouse keeper. He served here until September 26, 1854 when he died on the job. The keeper’s house no longer stands. In recent years great efforts have been made to stop the erosion of the tiny island that is home to the 1806 tower. (Lighthouse Digest archives.
