A young George Sanford Morrison, with his sister, Linda, and mother Jane(Schaffner) Morrison, in the old “taxi” at St. Croix River Island Lighthouse in Maine. The “taxi” was the only vehicle on the island, having been brought there in 1930 by lighthouse keeper Elson Small. The Small’s lighthouse life was later recounted in the book, The Lighthouse Keeper’s Wife by Connie Small, who became known as the First Lady of Light (Photograph courtesy of George Sanford Morrison.)
