This 1950 photo shows OIC Arie Van Der Mear, Jr. as he points out the magnificent view from grounds of the Cape Hinchinbrook Lighthouse, to Commander James S. Muzzy, the Executive Officer of the USCGC Northwind, which was delivering fuel to the lighthouse. The Northwind also functioned as a “floating court” for a United States federal judge and staff, while U.S. Coast Guard medical personnel and United States Public Health Service officers were on board to provide medical and dental aid to hundreds of solated Aleutian villagers.
