Photo Caption:
This photo of Willard D. Miller lying down, but propped up with a pipe in his mouth, was most likely taken in his bedroom at East Brother Lighthouse. All of his carvings are around him. The banner on the wall “Fire When Ready Gridley” has a really famous background that has to do with Captain Charles Gridley’s Spanish American War exploits during the same war when Willard and his brother won their medals.
