1888 photograph of the head keeper and his two assistants taken outside the Assateague Lighthouse keepers’ quarters where they all lived. Pictured left to right in the rear are 1st assistant keeper Samuel Quillen, 2nd assistant keeper Winred E. Hopkins and Ida Taylor who married Hopkins in 1889. In the front row are Jane Quillen, Mrs. Libbie Quillen with Hilary Quillen on her lap, head keeper John L. Anderton and Mrs. Clara A Anderton. The identity of the child next to Clara is unknown.
