William Thomas Collins served as third assistant keeper at Assateague Lighthouse in the early 1900s. He is shown here on horseback. Wild horses are still prevalent on Assateague Island. In 1933, when lighthouse keepers were no longer needed at Assateague Lighthouse, Collins was transferred to the Cape Charles Lighthouse, also in Virginia. Back to the edition of: June 2010
