This photo shows the hoisting motor for the derrick and boom inside the operator building at Tillamook Rock Lighthouse. The keepers were very adept at the controls, except when they wanted to “accidentally” dunk people on the way to and from the boat. There was one particular inspector who they named “butter bottom” who got a dunking occasionally, undoubtedly followed by a smiling apology. (Photo courtesy of Brian Bay.)
