Lighthouse keeper William F. Stanley with his wife Estella and their three young children: (l-r) Derby, Arvilla, and Beverly. In 1909, William F. Stanley was transferred from Great Duck Island Lighthouse to the Cape Elizabeth Light Station in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. However, he only served as head keeper at Cape Elizabeth for a brief time; he suffered a stroke at the lighthouse that same year and died at the age of 55. He was buried at the Evergreen Cemetery in Portland, Maine.
(This William F. Stanley is not to be confused with the William Stanley with no middle initial, another Maine lighthouse keeper, who also served at Mt. Desert Rock Lighthouse and later at Monhegan Island Lighthouse.)
