The U.S. Lighthouse Service historical marker installed by Ron Janard at the grave site of I W P Lewis who played a major role in the development of many of the early lighthouses of the United States. He never used his full name of Isaiah William Penn Lewis, and instead always went by I W P Lewis. In 1843 he issued a vital report to Congress that was critical of the building and management of the lighthouses – a report that eventually led to many positive changes.
