In Walter Lawrence’s album, there are several study photos showing the nature of the waves and surf as they pounded through the crevice. This photo shows some of the eruption effect that generated a large spray that would catapult upward as it was forced through the opening at one end. It isn’t hard to see how this kind of pressure was capable of catapulting 100 pound rocks during a severe storm where the wave force would dramatically increase. (Courtesy of Brian Bay.)
