Notes:
From the early 1900s to 1990 the front range light had a tall wooden lantern; in 1990 it was restored to an iron lantern. The lighthouse was moved in 1964 from Bayley's Wharf to the grounds of the neighboring Coast Guard station. The Lighthouse Presrvation Society is working with the Coast Guard to restore the tower. Directions:
The Coast Guard station is on Water Street in downtown Newburyport. There is street parking near the station. If you wish to enter the station for a close view of the lighthouse, you should first stop in the station and ask for permission. For a view of the range lights from the water, you can take a Newburyport Harbor cruise on the Yankee Clipper. The vessel leaves Newburyport Waterfront Park for 45-minute tours from 11 am to 6:30 pm in summer. Cruises are $10 for adults, $5 for children. Call (888) 975-1842 for information.
