International Chimney Corporation (ICC) partnered with their long-time specialty roofing and sheet metal subcontractor, Renaissance Cornice of Johnston, Rhode Island. ICC made a multitude of carpentry roof and decking repairs to Plum Island Lighthouse, which included several ceiling joists, restoration of the eaves, and complete restoration of the original Yankee gutters and downspouts. The gutters and downspouts were lined with copper by Renaissance Cornice. Renaissance Cornice installed all new copper flashings and drip edges. The new slate roof was supplied by the Vermont Slate Co. of Savannah, Georgia. ICC then replaced the watch room floor with new tongue-and-groove flooring.
ICC then completely restored the chimney by dismantling, cataloging, cleaning and resetting the original limestone. Brick was rebuilt and a new, arched, brick chimney cap was installed to match the aesthetics of Plum Island’s sister lighthouse – the Block Island North Lighthouse in Rhode Island.
