Long Island’s 1796 Montauk Point Lighthouse, the oldest light in the State of New York, was recently painted with a breathable mineral coating that brought the tower back to its glorious traditional colors, as well as helping to reduce humidity on the lighthouse and protect the sandstone for the future.
Authorized by President George Washington, it is the fourth oldest active lighthouse in the United States. When the lighthouse celebrated its 225th birthday in 2021, the United States Postal Service issued a postage stamp in its honor on August 7th of that year, which is National Lighthouse Day.
