In 2009, under the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act, the ownership of the famous Chicago Harbor Lighthouse was transferred from the federal government to the City of Chicago.
However, because the City of Chicago has allowed the lighthouse to deteriorate and they have made no effort to save and restore the 1893 lighthouse, the federal government wants it back. A final decision may soon be reached. Stay tuned.
