While placing flags for Memorial Day at the grave sites of lighthouse keepers in the Corey Cemetery in Lubec, Maine, we discovered that the gravesite of Maine lighthouse keeper Roscoe L. Fletcher did not have a U.S. Lighthouse Service memorial plaque. Because we had an extra marker with us, we immediately placed one at his tombstone.
Roscoe L. Fletcher was a 2nd assistant keeper at Maine’s Petit Manan Lighthouse from 1928 to 1936 and the head keeper at Matinicus Rock Lighthouse from 1936 to 1945.
Watch for an in-depth story about his life at these lighthouses in an upcoming edition of Lighthouse Digest.
