The 4th order Fresnel lens that lighted the lantern at California’s current Point Hueneme Lighthouse structure since 1941 has been removed and replaced this past August with a modern VLB-44 Vega LED beacon.
But lighthouse aficionados, most who do not want to see Fresnel lenses removed from the lighthouse towers, will be happy to know that the Point Hueneme 4th order lens is still at the lighthouse and is now on display on the first floor.
Tours are available to visit the Point Hueneme Lighthouse on the second Saturday of every month from 10 am to 3 pm, with the last tour beginning at 2:30 pm. For more information, go to www.huenemelight.org.
