A new lighthouse sculpture is now on display outside the 60-cell Divisional Headquarters for the South Wales Police Department in Cardiff Bay in Wales, UK. However, the 60-foot high stainless steel sculpture that cost close to $123,000 has drawn some sharp criticism as a waste of taxpayer money.

But the police department defended the attention-getting sculpture, saying that it was bound by planning rules to spend the cash. They said that the lighthouse itself cost 0.4 per cent of the total cost of the police station, and “The lighthouse symbolizes a point of safety and reflects the maritime history of Cardiff Bay,” which we would have to agree with even though others may not.
