Old post cards like these are all that remains to remind us of another era when old diners like this were popular in coastal areas, especially in Florida. The Setzer’s Lighthouse Restaurant was located on Rt. A 1 A, one mile north of the city limits of Ormond Beach, Florida. Owned by Mr. & Mrs. W.W. Setzer, it promoted itself as a place to enjoy Continental Cuisine, expertly prepared and attractively served in their candle-lighted dining room overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

This particular post card was mailed from Daytona Beach, Florida on December 4, 1958 as an entry for the Christmas Showcase to The Price is Right television show with a price guess of $11,103.31.

At that time the show was hosted by Bill Cullen, one of the most popular game show hosts of all time. A few weeks after this card was mailed, Charles DeGaulle was elected President of France after receiving 78.5% of the votes.

Setzer’s Lighthouse Restaurant no longer stands, but we can’t help but wonder if the owners were lighthouse aficionados.
