Rhode Island’s Hog Island Shoal Lighthouse, completed in 1901, was built by the Toomey Brothers of Guildford, Connecticut, who had gained some notoriety after building the Plum Beach Lighthouse near Kingston, Rhode Island, which was a structure of similar style. Fortunately some photographs of the construction of Hog Island Shoal Lighthouse have survived in the files of the National Archives, enabling us to share them with you.
