Restoration repairs at North Carolina’s Bodie Island Lighthouse have hit a snag when crews discovered cracks and breaks in the structural supports that hold the balcony and affect the stability of the top of the lighthouse. It is unknown where the additional funds will come from for the repairs, which may delay the reopening of the famous lighthouse to the public. (Photograph by Debbie Rahmoeller.)
