No, it’s not trick photography. This really is New York’s Staten Island Ferry as it passes the Menominee North Pier Lighthouse in Menominee, Michigan.

This historic photo, which preserves a unique slice of history, was taken by Lighthouse Digest subscriber Mary Hensel, who describers herself as being in the right place at the right time.

The vessel, built by Marinette Marine, had been out on a trial test run, before it was eventually delivered to New York. In recent years, under the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act, ownership of the Menominee North Pier Lighthouse was transferred to the City of Menominee.

This story appeared in the Jan/Feb 2011 edition of Lighthouse Digest Magazine.
