Tower Talk

Comments?

Unfortunately in today’s society many people seem to confuse activity with outcome, which in the long run can be a disastrous mistake, whether it may be their personal lives, the work place or in volunteerism. For the purpose of this column it is about volunteerism. For example, those who choose wisely and focus on high impact results for lighthouse preservation will succeed. Unfortunately others seem to always be "busy" volunteering but never realizing any results or always choosing the "easy" way and then asking, "What's in this for me?" Obviously these are statements that could be debated for hours, if not days. However, the real point is that

lighthouse preservation can not succeed without leaders who are dedicated to the cause, leaders who are in turn supported by a wide range of volunteers who are not involved in lighthouse preservation for the recognition, but rather for the sake of the accomplishment in saving our lighthouses and the history associated with them to leave and preserve a legacy for future generations. Those are the people we want to know about and we need your help to honor them in the pages of this magazine. Ronald Reagan once said something to the effect that “One can accomplish great things, provided you don’t care who gets the credit for it.” If you know people in the lighthouse preservation movement who you believe volunteer with that statement in mind, send us a letter or email me at editor@LighthouseDigest.com about their efforts. Those are the people we’d like to surprise and honor with the Lighthouse Digest “Beacon of Light Award.”
