Thoughtfully, the government included the privy, shown to the left of the structure, at Bullocks Point Lighthouse in Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay, when they built the lighthouse. However, one of the lighthouse keepers built the porch on the right of the structure so his children would have room to play outdoors. Although the Hurricane of 1938 swept away most of the keeper’s furniture and partially destroyed the structure no one lost their life. Shortly after that the structure was demolished and never replaced. Image from the archives of Lighthouse Digest.
