Connie’s husband lighthouse keeper Elson Small with the only vehicle on Maine’s St. Croix Island Lighthouse. He named it his TAXI. Look closely and you will see Blossom the cow. Elson, who hated canned milk, brought the cow to the island for fresh milk. A photograph of Elson milking the cow later became famous for use as a recruiting poster for the United States Lighthouse Service. Back to the edition of: March 2005
