Chief Engineer Thomas Smith, who married Jean Stevenson, was the first-generation family member of the Stevenson lighthouse dynasty, composing of seven Stevenson engineers, who were active from 1787 to 1938, and built almost 200 lighthouses along the Scottish coast.
