The Coast Guard replaced the railing in the 1970s due to safety concerns. This railing was the only one that didn’t have the vertical posts in the corners of the deck. This photo was taken in the late 1990s, after LRHS signed its lease with the Coast Guard allowing year-round climbing of the lighthouse by the public. (Photo by David F.
