Port Isabel Lighthouse is shown at right with an empty lantern before the replica Fresnel lens was installed in late 2022. The lighthouse was built in 1852 of brick that was brought over from New Orleans by schooner. The lighthouse was darkened during the Civil War and was used as a lookout by both Confederate and Union forces. It was also used as a lookout tower during World War I.
