William Egly, who started his lighthouse career in 1884 as an assistant keeper at the Port Isabel Lighthouse, became head lighthouse keeper in 1895. He served at Port Isabel until 1905 when he transferred to the nearby Brazos Santiago Lighthouse where he served until his death in 1921.
