At Los Angeles Harbor Light, also known as Angel’s Gate Lighthouse, LeRoy White worked under head keeper Irving D. Conklin, who was known for being quite a character and a “Philosophic Giant,” according to newspaper articles. LeRoy thought Conklin was “one heck of a guy” as well as a “demon photographer,” who took this photo of him on the lantern deck of the lighthouse in 1937. (Courtesy of Betty Westby)
