The captain, Richard E. B. “Dick” Phillips (l), was ashore when Cross Rip Lightship LV-6 broke its mooring and was carried off by an ice field to its watery grave in February of 1918. Seaman Almon F. Wixon (r), who served as the second cook, was onboard and perished. (Boston Post, February 15, 1918)
